Surrounded by forests, scenic lakes, remains of the old Finnish farmsteads, great game and fishing possibilities as well as the history of the renowned estate Maarud Gaard itself as a background, the Maarud Gaard Conferences have built up an impressing catalogue of services offering their guests a great variety of culinary and challenging adventures.
We aim to offer first class cuisine, and have free access to most of the raw material from our own woods and lakes. Moose, fish and all kinds of berries and vegetables come from the estate. We even have our own deer farm that provides us with excellent meat.
Those who wish can learn more about recipes and cooking with first-class ingredients by attending our cooking classes.
Maarud Gaard Conferences is located in Finnholt, 10 miles from Disenå and 35 miles from Oslo Airport. What used to be the forester manager's household has been turned into a modern conference centre with all necessary facilities and 17 double rooms in comfortable lodgings and an impressive wine cellar. On the lakeshore - some 150 feet away from the main house - there has been established a cozy fireplace seating 40-50 guests, in addition to a timber-built sauna and outdoor jacuzzi. If one further wishes to explore the outdoors and its wilderness, there is a Wilderness Camp 3,5 miles into the woods with 5 lavvo-tents (tepees) for encampment, and a big one - the Grand Lavvo - that may dine 60 guests with a three-dish menu being prepared and served from the gas-stove kitchen in the little log cabin.
Should the conference centre itself not be sizable enough, the Finnholt Grendehus (public house) or the veteran car museum down at the estate may be suitable.
We arrange for meetings, kick offs, conventions, exhibitions, courses, seminars, parties, birthday parties, weddings and other arrangements - catering from 10 to 200 people. The food may be served in elegant surroundings, being it in the impressive museum, the dining room in the forest (Finnholt), by the fireplace, in tents, lavvos, or out in the open.
The choices are nearly innumerable also when it comes to activities offered - summer or winter; Maarud Gaard Conferences have one of the most breathtaking, high-climbing tracks between the treetops in Scandinavia. Wire-based with platforms and spans peaking 42 feet over the forest bed, it certainly is a true trial of one's own capabilities. It also puts a test to the colleagues' ability to collaborate to complete the entire track. The course ends with a 75 metres traversing to the finish. A must-try!
Also offered is trout fishing, fly fishing, sceet shooting, hunting, food and wine classes, waterskiing, wakeboard and horseback riding. There is even a possibility for a ride in the Maarud Gaard Estate owner's veteran plane! You may test yourself as a co-driver alongside accomplished rally drivers on the forest roads, and in the winter time you may experience the high speeds as a rally car driver yourself on the ice covered lakes.
